Things you may want to know about the Scottoiler....

WHAT IS THE SCOTTOILER SYSTEM? A gravity system that cleans and lubricates the chain as you ride. Developed over the past 15 years, it absorbs no power, has no wearing parts and is easily fitted on to any motorcycle using the range of universal fittings supplied.

DOES THE SCOTTOILER SYSTEM DO AWAY WITH ALL CHAIN MAINTENANCE? As the chain is automatically cleaned and lubricated, the only maintenance required is chain tensioning, and this is necessary only at much longer intervals due to reduced chain and sprocket wear.

HOW MUCH LONGER WILL THE CHAIN LAST? Up to 7 times longer depending on present maintenance, area grit hardness, season and riding style.

DOES FITTING THE SCOTTOILER AFFECT THE ENGINE? No. Only 3cc of air moves back and forth in the intake actuating the diaphragm-valve. The engine side of the diaphragm is 'closed' so no air can be drawn in to the Scottoiler.

WILL IT PUT OIL ON THE REAR TYRE? A flow rate of between 1 to 2 drops per minute will provide an oil-film which will not pollute the running surface of the tyre and will give a dramatic improvement in chain life. In conditions where high levels of dust, sand, salt or heavy rain are present - more oil flow will be necessary to extend chain life. More oil flow can increase the risk of oil on the running surface of the tyre, so it is important the tyre be monitored for oil contamination if the system is set to deliver more than 2 drops per minute.

HOW DOES IT WORK? The SCOTTOILER system is switched on and off automatically by a simple connection to a source of vacuum on the engine - such as a carburettor balancing take-off, vacuum operated fuel tap, or connection to a balancing pipe between carburettors. This design enables accurate flow adjustment when the bike is stationary enabling correct chain lubrication without excess oil.

WHERE DOES IT FIT? The heart of the SCOTTOILER system, the Reservoir Metering Valve unit (RMV), can be mounted anywhere on the motorcycle and works at any angle up to and including horizontal.
The Magnum High Capacity Reservoir (HCR) which incorporates a bracket to fit the RMV onto, fits behind the registration plate.

IS THE SCOTTOILER SYSTEM NECESSARY FOR 'O' RING CHAINS? 'O' rings are made of rubber which has a high coefficient of friction. Unless the surfaces are kept moist, the rubber will harden and crack, exposing a link-pin to dirt causing wear. The resulting 'slack spot' makes accurate chain adjustment impossible. Two kilowatts of power can be converted to heat by seal friction on 'O' ring chain.

DOES THE SCOTTOILER WORK WITH A TWO-STROKE, FOUR-STROKE, FUEL INJECTED OR TURBO-CHARGED ENGINE? Yes to all four, although the High Capacity Reservoir cannot be fitted with a turbo-charged engine because of the positive pressure in the engine intake.

HOW OFTEN DOES THE SCOTTOILER NEED FILLING? The RMV takes 10 seconds to top up with 50cc of oil which should last approximately 500 - 1000 miles. Using the Magnum HCR increases capacity to 400cc, enough for 4,000 to 8,000 miles.

CAN THE MAGNUM HCR BE ADDED TO THE UNIVERSAL KIT? The Magnum HCR can be added to the standard SCOTTOILER Universal Kit at any time, or can be purchased from the start by buying the SCOTTOILER Touring Kit instead of the SCOTTOILER Universal Kit.
